Healthy Choices Start Early
The sooner children are introduced to healthier eating, the easier it will be for them to make smarter food choices and maintain a healthy weight throughout their lives. Here are some easy ways you can help your children start down the path of good health.
Spend Some Quality Cooking Time Together
Cooking and baking with kids is a great way to help them learn about and develop healthier eating habits while they’re also having fun.
They'll learn more than healthier eating...they'll learn other skills as well.
- Real world math—Kids will learn fractions and measurements while following a recipe
- Science—What happens when you put ingredients together and add heat? Kids are naturally curious. Cooking is a great way to feed their curiosity
- Reading and vocabulary—They’ll learn new words and improve comprehension by reading recipes
- Improves communication—Not only will you talk about what you’re making, it’s a great opportunity to talk about other things as well
Take Your Kids Grocery Shopping
One way to help educate them on healthier food and snacking choices is to go grocery shopping together and then keep a nice supply of healthy snacks and simple foods on hand so they can just grab them and go.
